E-Digest#04: Past Events

N A G M E 0 7

An audience of more than 300 comprising of the alumni and their families had a gala time full of music and masti on Saturday, 17.11.2007 when they attended NAGME 07 held in Dogra Hall. Some of the responses immediately after the show were – ‘mind blowing performance’, ‘enjoyed thoroughly’, ‘great show by you guys’.

The alumni association musical evening on show this time had 25 performers from different batches thereby representing singers practically from every era right from the 60s to the 21st millennium. The songs ranged from melodies of 60s and 70s to the rocking music of 2007. There were singers of all ages from 6 years to 60 years. A couple of performance on instruments such as mouth organ and synthesizer added variety to the show.

The pick of the evening among the new performers were songs by Jaspreet Jassal (d/o T.P.S. Jassal) who was rightfully described by Alok Sahdev as ‘Voice of India’ and Rajeev Kamal who performed like a rock star. The audience were simply spell-bound when Jaspreet sang ‘Aji rooth kar ab kahan jaaiyega’ and ‘Kabhi neem neem kabhi shahad shahad’ while Rajeev Kamal rendered ‘Kya mujhe pyaar hai’. The other sensational debut was that of Amol Sahdev, s/o Alok Sahdev who delighted the audience with two contemporary numbers – ‘Firta hai kyun darbadar’ and ‘Aankhon mein teri ajab si’.

Of course,super-performer of the evening was Alok Sahdev who captivated the audience with beautiful rendering of one new and one old song – ‘Kabhi raat din hum door the’ and ‘In dino dil meraa’. The icing on the cake was provided by a melodious performance of ‘Jiya dhadhak dhadhak’ by 10-year old Vasvi Bajaj, d/o Arun Bajaj which brought the curtains down on the show.

A new flavour was added to the musical evening this time by including two duets. So while we had Kanika and Rajesh crooning to a naughty ‘O hasina zulfon wali jaane jahan’, a peppy and melodious ‘Itna na mujhse tu pyaar badha ki main ek baadal awaara’ was presented by Ashok Gaur and Jaspreet. Notable performance also came from J.K. Khanna, Somnath Bharti, Sourav Banerjee, Kushal Sen and Vijay Parashar. Kaushik Mukherjee was unparalleled on mouth organ with ‘Bekarar karke hamen’ while Anish and Atish (sons of Ashit Majumdar) thrilled the audience with songs on synthesizer.

Mementoes were given away to the performers by Dr. Anurag Sharma, Dean of Students and Sh. V. Sethuraman, President, IITDAA. Dinner and Raffle, last events of the day, were enjoyed to the hilt by the gathering in Zanskar Hostel.
