Since its inception in 2003, the IIT Global Alumni Conference has been a premier business event, bringing together industry visionaries, thought leaders and IIT alumni from across the globe.

IIT 2007 promises to be the biggest one yet. With an exciting program, distinguished panelists and record attendances, the conference will be a unique forum to meet industry leaders, re-establish old bonds, and network with fellow alumni and their families.

Program Overview

As the largest annual gathering of world-class technology and business professionals of Indian descent, the iit2007 program is designed to showcase technological advances and business accomplishments leading to global transformations. The program will span three days (July 6-8, 2007), each day beginning with keynote addresses by world renowned leaders in government, business, society and academia.

July 6, 2007

The program will highlight the best insights of movers and shakers in business, technology, academia and public service through a series of panel discussions in four key topics: Corporate Leadership, Entrepreneurial Success, Academic Excellence and Social Transformation.

July 7, 2007

The agenda will focus on a larger set of moderated informal sessions on a broader set of topics enabling deeper examination of ideas and lively interactions with the audience.

July 8, 2007

The primary focus will be on each campus hosting its alumni and discuss topics and items of interest and relevance to that campus.

Activities for Batch Reunions, Spouses and Children Make your visit to the Bay Area a lot more fun with social activities with fellow alumni, family and friends. Have a blast with a breath-taking night-time boat cruise on San Francisco Bay with Fourth of July fireworks lighting up the night sky – witness multiple fireworks from San Francisco, Sausalito, Berkeley, OaklandAlameda – each trying to outdo the other, to our viewing benefit. and

Enjoy Northern California’s many wondrous summer attractions such as visits to San Francisco City, university towns at Berkeley and Stanford, beach boardwalks at coastal Santa Cruz, hiking trails at Muir Woods / Stinson Beach / Mount Tamalpais, world-renowned Pebble Beach’s golf course and 17-Mile Drive, breath-taking Hearst Castle, acres and acres of vineyards in Napa and Sonoma, trips to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite and a lot, lot more to suit everyone’s taste and interests.

Day trips for Spouses In addition to the many attractions listed below, spouses and children can enjoy museums, spas, extensive shopping, a variety of restaurants serving world and California cuisine (with its fusion flavors and generous use of organics and herbs).

Day trips for Children and Young Adults

Children and young adults can enjoy San Jose’s Tech Museum and IMAX center, the DiscoveryMuseum, Kelly Park, canoe rides at the lake at Shoreline Park or rollercoaster rides at Paramount’s Great America, all within minutes of the conference venue. Alternately, head to San Francisco for some boating and hiking in Golden Gate Park and visit the Zoo and Museums there. Or head south to Santa Cruz and stop at the Mystery Spot on your way there (a puzzling attraction even for IIT kids and adults).

3.
Class of IITD 1997, 10 year re-union in Bay Area on July 4th 2007

Hi folks,

For those who just realized, we are coming up to our 10th year of graduation, 10 years since all that innocence. When the IITs were still 6 in number and Deloitte was the biggest job in town. A lot has happened since then, around the world and I'm sure to this group too. How about we get together again and share all those stories?

So, how about it? If you've learned over the last 10 years that IIT style deadline submissions don't always work, just click on http://iitd97year10.pbwiki.com/ and fill in your details to sign-up. The password to edit the twiki page is 'iitd97'.

The annual Pan-IIT conference is being organized in the Bay Area around the July 4th weekend. Details are available at http://www.iit2007.org But that's not the interesting part. The interesting part is that the organizing committee has put together multiple trip packages to encourage groups of 'reunionizers' to get together and have fun.

Check out - http://iit2007.org/reunions.html

There are day trips and multi-day trips. They will arrange most of the logistics. All we have to do is get off on our laptops, and book our trip to the Bay Area (for those who are not local). We can do something less intensive like a dinner or picnic also.

Come on guys, really hoping I can get to see how you all have morphed over the last 10 years. Note that I don't think you need to sign up for the conference if you don't want to. But if you do, you can kill 2 birds with one stone - the biggest annual Pan-IIT Alumni networking event along with a trip down memory lane with your classmates at the same time.

Last but not the least, please forward it to all other IITD 97 contacts or mailing lists that you have. The more the merrier.

PLAN OF ACTIVITIES FOR THE 2007-08 BY MR. V. SETHURAMAN, PRESIDENT.

Mr. V. Sethuraman gave presentation of plan of IITDAA activities for the year 2007-08.

Dear Fellow Alumni,

Mr. V. Sethuraman is now taking over as the President of our Alumni Association. I am delighted to offer my contribution to this large intellectual force spread all over the globe and with our alumni holding key positions in various fields. At the same time I feel humble to step into the shoes of a galaxy of eminent personalities who have been my predecessors holding this position staring with Professor RN Dogra, the founder Director of this great institute. It is only due to their vision that the IIDDelhi Alumni Association has been nurtured so well and has grown to this present position. It would be my earnest endeavor to carry forward and realize their vision while contributing my share of aspirations to see the Institute and the Association grow into a global entity to be reckoned with by the technological and intellectual community. At this juncture I seek the blessings and good wishes of my predecessors, faculty of the Institute and my fellow alumni.

Data Base Updating & Interactions: The alumni strength is presently over 30,000 and is rapidly growing at approximately 1,400 per year. The prime and major role of the Alumni Association is to develop, update and keep alive the vast data base of the contact details of its members to enable them to interact amongst themselves and also with people with common interest for the benefit of their endeavors and also for the benefit of their alma mater. With our alumni scattered all ov

er the country and indeed across the globe, they often used to find it difficult to personally meet and interact even if they were located in the same city. The internet is now being utilized m

ore effectively and it would be our endeavor to connect as many of our alumni as is possible

to enable meaningful communication and exchange of thoughts and ideas. We shall attempt to evolve our web presence with this emphasis.

Globalization: Just as the Alumni Association would try and reach out to its member

s across the globe, we are sure that the alumni community located the world like over would like to participate in the various activities being carried out by the Association. With this viewpoint in mind the outgoing Executive committee has initiated the concept ob Global Representatives in the Executive Committee. We have received nominations from five alumni this year. I am certain that in the years to come this will further increase and the geographical location of the alumni will not be a constraint in participating in the activities of the IIT Delhi Alumni Association.

It has been seen from past experience that development of Chapters and supporting them wherever necessary is an excellent way of bringing together the Alumni Committee. The out

going EC has developed a paper on Chapter Policy which has covered various aspects of Chapter formation mutually helping one another. The incoming EC will endeavor to carry forward this initiative both within India and the world over.

The IIT Delhi Excellence Foundation in the USA is a large and active body and is d

oing excellent work for the institute. We look forward to closer ties with our activities for mutual benefit. We also feel that such bodies should be established in other parts of the globe wh

ere our Alumni are located in large numbers.

Giving Back: I am sure that every one of us is indebted to the Institute for the excellent education and training it has imparted to us. It is my firm belief that all of us should give back to the Institute whatever we can in the form of mentoring the students, delivering lectures or organizing workshops on specific fields of interest where we have gained experience or giving monetary contribution for development of infrastructure /laboratories etc.

Further, while so many of our alumni are doing so well in their professional careers, unfortunately there are some who occasionally need help to overcome problems they may face owing to bad

times and seek the assistance of our Association for help. We would like to strengthen the “Alumn

i Benevolent Fund” by generous contributions from our alumni who harbor a philanthropic bent of mind to help their fellow alumni in distress. The methodology and the ways to contribute for this cause will be well defined and circulated to the Alumni community.

IIT Delhi Alumni Newsletter It is important that this be published periodically. This is to be

published every quarter and should cover the activities being done by our Alumni across the globe. We would also like to include achievements of Alumni both in their career growth and also in their personal lives.

Coffee Table Book This project was started quite some time back and at some point of time could not progress. This has been revived recently and is taking a final shape. We will strive to complete it at the earliest.

Merchandise: IIT Delhi Alumni Association has not developed in a big way merchandise that the Alumni could purchase to remind them of their belonging to this Institute. We propose to develop this by starting with Ties, T-shirts Mugs, Watches with logo, Shirts with logo, Rocking Chair etc

.

Constitution Amendment; Our Association is over 20 years old and the membership has grown enormously. However, the Constitution has remained virtually static and has not evolved with the development of the Association. There are areas which are ambiguous and subject to interpretation, or are without well defined procedures and timetables. These need to be stud

ied, and corrected to evolve a Constitution which will provide for greater participation and which will serve us for time to come. I propose to have a Committee including Past Presidents and EC members to look into all aspects and give their recommendations.

Awards and Recognition With the list of our prominent alumni reading like a Who’s Who

of industry, and with alumni success stories in most fields; we need to increase the number of awards, at different levels and covering broader fields of activities. Often alumni have reached very high levels in their careers, but this is known to only a few because their operations are away from the media limelight. Presently the IIT Delhi Alumni Association has only institutes the “Outstandin

g Contribution to National Development Awards”, We will look into this aspect and try and increase our Awards and Recognitions suitably to our alumni.

We would wish to continue and broaden the scope of prizes for student projects such as the I2Tech awards. Such initiatives would lead to a greater AA involvement in student activities.

Regular Activities: Seminars, Conferences and Lectures:; Sports and Cultural Events, Distinguished Alumni Awards; Silver Jubilee Celebrations, Career Counseling for Students e

tc. shall continue.

I have always received cooperation and guidance from the Director IIT Delhi, the Dean Alumni Affairs and all the other faculty members and staff of the institute. I am sure we will continue to get their patronage in our activities. I look forward to a very happy and fruitful year with my EC members in carrying forward our activities.
