3. 5yrs out of IIT - lets get together

hi guys,

Its been 5 years out of IIT for our batch.
to "celebrate" the passing of this milestone (and as i recall, the date after which IIT can not revoke our degrees), i suggest we all get together on the 16th dec evening. venue(s) to be decided, but you can block your diaries from now.
potential locations i can think of, where people can get together (seperately of course) - delhi, chennai, mumbai, pune, hyderabad, bangalore (if there is any other city where there's a bunch of guys, feel free to include it).
lets all plan something - volunteers needed for each location - basically to pick a venue, and do what ever reservations are needed. those interested can get in touch with alumni office @ iitdaa@gmail.com

5. IITDAA Silver Jubilee Reunion Batch 1982.

Dear Friends,

A Silver Jubilee Reunion comes once in a lifetime, and for the batch of '82, this is the year when we will come together again. This will be the opportunity to relive the five years of our youth - our formative years - our glorious past. We will not get another chance to meet so many of our batch-mates who were once an indivisible part of our lives. We hope to meet again the many friends of yesteryears and hope to recognize them after 25 years have gone by. As communicated earlier, the Silver Jubilee Event is being held from the 28th to 30th of December this year, 2006.

All 1982 graduates, PGs (BTech, MS, MTech, PhDs, etc) are invited along with their families.Families are an integral part of this event - they have to see what we have been talking to them about - with their own eyes. You can get your children and spouse to walk the corridors of your hostel and meet with the profs - specially the ones from whom you once kept a long distance. You can take time out to explore the examination halls where you once spent time looking at the ceiling or sideways since the answers to confounding questions were almost always found on other people's scribble sheets. You can do almost whatever you want back at IITD.

Please pull in all those with whom you are in touch, help them make up their minds. We need to make the best of this opportunity. The earlier batches enjoyed every bit of their bash and wanted more. Come and let's make this the best bash of our lives. Most of the details have already been worked out and the program is also given below. However, suggestions/ ideas are welcome for any minor changes in the schedule/ events.

Digest#9: Past Events

1. Sugam`06.

"Mazaa aa gayaa!", 'beyond my wildest imagination!' ...these are some of the responses received immediately after the show.
Being a light music evening, it kept many at home and the sem hall was only three-fourths full. But those who came in were connossieurs and they got their time`s worth. The singing was exquisite, the song selection admirable, which included many film gazals, the accoustics excellent and the samosas delectable.
The find of the evening was New York based Sudip Mukherjee from the 1987 batch. The audience would simply not let him go. His rendering of Mehdi Hassan`s 'mohabbat karne wale' was par excellence. The other songs he sang were all Rafi gazals- 'hum bekhudi mein tumko pukare', 'Saathi na koi manzil' and 'Mujhe dekhkar tera muskurana'.

Alok Sahdev was his usual melodic self, delighting with more Rafi softs 'Mujhe darde-e-dil ka pata na tha', 'Abhi na jaao chor kar', 'dil jo na kah saka' and 'Ehsaan tera hooga'.
Sandipan Mukherjee took the audience on a journey to a divine world with his Manna Dey bhajan 'bhai vandana' , Meera bhajan 'Mharre girdhar gopal' and manna dey gazal 'chale ja rahen hai'.
Young Somashree Dastidar captivated with her nazrulgeeti and shyama sangeet in bangla.
Ashok Gaur (tasvir banata hoon) and Rolee Agarwal (ye raat ye fizayen, afsana likh rahi hoon) were superb as well.
The children`s program included appreciable performances by brothers Pratyush and Deeptanshu Kapur, Shyam and Kabir Agarwal, and Ankita Saxena.

3. IITD Mumbai Alumni meet at the Prince Room in NSCI on 18th Nov.`06.

18th November, NSCI Mumbai

It was nostalgic moment meeting some old friends from IIT D after 10- 15 years. It was a get together which brought the memories of our golden days that we spent together in hostels. Every one was eager to meet and know each other and to share their experiences. Many of our friends joined the get together with their spouses. It was a unique experience meeting more than 40 IIT D guys, some of them who have already made their mark in corporate world and government jobs and some of them with that glitters of hope to emulate their fellow IITians. It was indeed great experience meeting people starting from 1970 batch to recent pass outs of 2004 batch.

The meeting was presided over by Mr. Nobby Gupta. In his august presence, the chairmanship was handed over to Mr. Vijay Aggarwal (Batch 1989). Mr. Vikram Reddy took over as Secretary. Mr. Gupta informed the gathering that Pan IIT jamboree is going to be organized in Mumbai in the month of December. Around 3000 -5000 IITians from different part of the world are expected to converge here. Mr. Gupta also informed that these three days seminar will be inaugurated by The President of India. Mr. Prime Minister has also expected to come for the closing ceremony. Sri Sri Ravi Shanker is also expected to give his deliberations on “Art of Living”.

Mr. Vikaas Sachdeva, Country Head – Business Development, ING Vysya Mutual Fund, gave a presentation on investment opportunities in mutual funds. The question answer session went on for longer than expected. After all – “Its all about money, honey”, of course senior guys were more interested in it, rest were looking at the drinks which was ready to be served. This obvious distraction apart, one thumb rule of Mr. Sachdeva, I remember clearly, was – “Put your money in debt instruments in the same proportion of your age”. So, if you are 40, put 40% of your investment in debt instrument. Huh, right now I am worried about paying my debts.

Mr. Vijay Aggarwal and Mr. Vikram Reddy, have promised us many more such get- togethers in near future. Families will get more chance to interact and get entertained with games and music in future. Mr. Anil Chandiramani, played role of great host. Under his stewardship, food was definitely better, guys like me got good opportunity to dine and wine, I think others will also vouch for it.

The happy ending was when every one got a T-shirt with IITD logo. Some die hard IITians, just took off their expensive shirts and sported the IIT D T-shirt then and there itself. Proud IITians never loose the chance. Those who missed this opportunity can still have it.

Let’s all meet and share our joy of being successful in our endeavors and make our IIT D fraternity a bigger success in future. I must say that people from 70’s and 80’s batches showed more enthusiasm and showed us the true meaning of “The art of living”.
Manoj Shrivastav (Batch 91)

4. PAN IIT Bangalore Outreach Event

The PAN IIT Bangalore Outreach Event held on November 18th, 2006, Saturday between 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM in Spring Hall, Hotel Royal Orchid Park Plaza off Airport Road near KGA.

The idea was to promote the PAN IIT awareness and help one another in attaining worthy goals in our personal and professional lives. Your presence would make this effort a great success.
