Alumnus Vishnu R Dusad (B.Tech 1980, Textile Technology), MD and CEO of Nucleus Software Exports Ltd. has facilitated the setting up of ‘Dhananjaya Chair Professorship’ and ‘Nucleus Outstanding Young Faculty Fellowships’ at IIT Delhi. Nucleus Software Exports Ltd. has donated an endowment of Rs. 4,080,000/- (Four Million Eighty Thousand Indian Rupees) to IITD to institute the Chair Professorship and the Fellowships. Out of this endowment, Rs. 3.00 Million will be used to establish the Chair, while the remaining Rs. 1.08 Million will be used to establish three Fellowships. 4. A short 3-day course on Diagnostic Maintenance and Machine Condition Monitoring in December 10-12

We are organising a short 3-day course on Diagnostic Maintenance and Machine Condition Monitoring in December 10-12, 2007 at IIT Delhi. If anybody is interested to attend or depute any of their colleagues in the organisation, please let me know.

Vibration is an important factor that adversely affects both engineering structures and human beings. The increased levels of vibrations in structures cause wear and tear, loosening of parts, increased level of fluctuating stresses that ultimately lead to fatigue failure. In addition to these effects, vibrating structures are sources of noise. Vibrations signatures are also used for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of mechanical systems. Shutdown of costly and critical machines for even a single day cause enormous financial loss to the organization. No wonder then, a number of companies are pursuing condition monitoring option with greater interest than ever before. Reduced transducer cost and availability of low cost data acquisition hardware and software is now enabling even smaller and medium sized industrial houses to employ diagnostic and monitoring strategies for their critical equipments. The predictive maintenance through such vibration based condition monitoring is therefore an important activity in industry. The course focuses on the practical strategies that can be adopted for industrial machineries. In addition, sizeable portion of the course also addresses an important related activity essential for condition monitoring and diagnosis: vibration signal processing and analysis. Hands on practical on the rigs and computer assignments form an important part of the course.

5. Pan IIT 2008 in Chennai

Pan-IIT 2008 - Curtain Raiser

Dear fellow alumnus of IITD,

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the next Pan-IIT 2008 conference is going to be held in Chennai. Mr. B. Santhanam of 1978 batch of IITM and currently the MD of Saint-Gobain Glass India has taken the responsibility to chair the committee to hold this event. The event is scheduled in IITM campus from Dec 19 to 21, 2008. The planning for the event is just about to commence. Several Chennai based alumni from other IITs have been inducted into the core committee. I am one of them.

The following is the general theme for the event that we are contemplating at this point.

* Research & Technology initiatives in Nation-building

* Excellence in Government

* Vision & Leadership in Social Entrepreneurship

* Challenges & Opportunities in India ’s Infrastructure

* Enhancing Quality & Accessibility in Education

* Innovate or Stagnate: India ’s road ahead

I am writing to you because of your involvement in alumni activities to request you to kick start efforts towards enhanced levels of participation of your chapter members in this event. Let us know if we can help.

We feel that it is important for alumni around the world to involve themselves in giving a direction to this event. So, I take this opportunity to solicit suggestions and sharing of experiences from each of you.

We will be back with news of progress in our efforts in a fortnight from now.

7. INDIAN PROFESSIONAL NETWORK

Dear Fellow Professional,

As some of you know, I have been working towards moving to India for a few years now. It looks like it may finally happen. Moving to India means having to build my network here. I found organizations like TiE wonderful. Their events as well as the people you meet through them are top notch.

THE GAP
However, the gap I find is the regular monthly networking opportunity not surrounding an event or conference. It just doesn't exist. This is important because there aren't enough relevant industry association events on a frequent basis in the city where you live. They tend to be spread out throughout India. They also tend to attract a specific subsection of the working population whereas effective networking needs to include a much larger pool.

THE FIX
So the fix: Indian Professionals Network - New Delhi. Bring your business card and meet fellow professionals in an informal environment.
In order to provide a way to network outside of events and conferences, we will organize a monthly happy hour. Our expected audience: young, mid-level, and seasoned professionals, men and women, corporate folks, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, tech people, finance people,
chartered accountants, attorneys, academics, business school students, returning NRIs and everyone in between. We will probably get many recruiters too.

I would be very excited if a national network of chapters gets developed.

YOUR HELP
If you are willing to help with this, please reply back. Your assistance is in finding a venue and marketing to your contacts.

I can prepare a blurb for you to send to your networks. This personal appeal is important. For those who have LinkedIn, I can send you an invite to a LinkedIn IPN group. Please join it and inform your network to come and participate. Please join it and forward to your network for them to join.

TIME
I would like these events to be post-work hours, i.e., start at 6:30 PM or 7:00 PM on Thursday evenings. People can come and go at any time. I expect we would be there for 3-4 hours, depending on number of people.

FIRST EVENT
The first event will be in January 08. Please visit www.indiaeventlist.com for more details.
