Greetings from Executive Committee, IITD Alumni Association Bangalore Chapter.
Bangalore Chapter of IIT Delhi Alumni Association is one of most active chapters in India and it organizes regular alumni activities aimed at networking, fun, educating alumni on social and professional aspects like entrepreneurship etc.
Currently, there are a large number of alumni, who are based in Bangalore but are not part of our database.

4. Nominations are invited for the Chair Professors ABB Chair, Mehra Chair and Amar. S. Gupta Chair

Lalit Mehra Sets Up Chair Professorship in Design & Manufacturing Technologies
Alumnus Lalit Mehra (B.Tech 1966, Mechanical Engineering), Chairman, Tara Vati Ram Gopal Mehra Foundation (TRMF) has set up ‘Mehra Professorial Chair’ in the area of Design and Manufacturing Technologies at IIT Delhi. An MoU for the Chair Professorship was signed and exchanged between Mr. Lalit Mehra and Prof. Surendra Prasad, Director, IIT Delhi on 1st Aug, 2006.

The Chair shall satisfy the following objectives:
A Professorship/ Associate Professorship or Visiting Faculty/ Visiting Professorship or Emeritus Fellowship/ Emeritus Professorship in the department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi or in any Department as determined by the Management Committee based on the experience and expertise of the faculty member being considered.
Teaching and Research in field of Design and Manufacturing Technologies.
Promoting the pursuit of excellence in education and research in the field of Design and Manufacturing Technologies.
The Chair Professor will receive an annual research grant of Rs. 3 lacs to be used for any academic purpose including hiring of research staff, travel, purchase of equipment, books or hiring of support services.
Ravi Uppal Facilitates Setting Up of ABB Chair Professorship and ABB Scholarships at IIT Delhi
Alumnus Ravi Uppal (B.Tech 1973, Mechanical Engineering), Vice Chairman and Managing Director of ABB India as well as Country Manager and President, South Asia Pacific Region, ABB has facilitated the setting up of 'ABB Professorial Chair' in the area of Power and Automation Technologies at IIT Delhi. ABB India has donated an endowment of Rs. 5,000,000 (Five Million Indian Rupees) to IITD to institute the Chair Professorship. The Chair Professor will receive Rs. 3 lakhs as an annual research grant. An MoU for the Chair Professorship was signed and exchanged between Mr. Ravi Uppal and Prof. Surendra Prasad, Director, IIT Delhi on 18th May, 2006.
The Chair shall satisfy the following objectives:
A professorship in any of the departments of IIT Delhi as determined by the Management Committee based on the experience and expertise of the faculty member being considered.
Teaching and Research in field of Power and Automation
Promoting the pursuit of excellence in education and research in the field of Power and Automation including continuing education and consultancy.
Acting as a liaison between academics and industry.
Encouraging exchange of faculty and/or students (including post-doctoral) between the donor and IITD to facilitate active participation in research related projects.

Mr. Ravi Uppal has also facilitated the setting up of ABB Scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students in Electrical Engineering discipline at IIT Delhi. ABB India has donated Rs. 9,36,000/- (Rs. nine lacs thirty six thousand). The main objective is to award initially two scholarships as under:
One scholarship to an undergraduate student in the second year in the discipline of Electrical Engineering (Power). The value of the scholarship will be Rs. 24,000/- per year.
One scholarship to a postgraduate student in the first year in the discipline of PS/PEEMD in alternate years. The value of the scholarship will be Rs. 1,20,000/- per year.
Ash Gupta Donates Endowment for Chair Professor in Decision Science
Alumnus Ashwini Gupta, (B.Tech 1974, Mechanical Engineering), Executive Vice President, American Express Bank, New York, USA has donated an endowment of Rs 66 lakhs for instituting ‘Amar S. Gupta Chair’ in the area of Decision Science. An MoU for the Chair Professorship was exchanged between Mr, Ashwini Gupta and Prof. Surendra Prasad, Director, IIT Delhi on 9th Jan, 2006. The MoU has been signed by the President of IITD Excellent Foundation, New York and the Director, IITDelhi .The Chair shall satisfy following objectives
(a) A professorship in any of the departments IIT Delhi as determined by the Management Committee based on the experience and expertise of the faculty member being considered. It is expected that the likely department for this chair will be Mathematics, Computer Science or Management Studies.
Teaching and Research in field of Decision Science, defined as the science of making decisions by deploying analytical techniques including data mining, predictive modeling, data modeling and other such methods.
Promoting the pursuit of excellence in education and research in the field of Decision Science including continuing education and consultancy.
Acting as a liaison between academics and industry.
The appointment of the Professor or Associate Professor shall be for a period not exceeding 5 (five) years at a time. The appointment can be extended by two years thereafter by the Management Committee.
The Chair will carry an annual grant of Rs 4,00,000 generated from the interest on the endowment. The grant money can be used for research, travel, infrastructure, or staff recruitment at the discretion of the faculty occupying the chair. In no case will the life of the Chair will be less than 20 years. After 20 years the balance of the principal amount will be used by IITD to enhance its corpus or any other manner decided by IITD.
